I'm seeing a number of different effects in Kate but they all seem to be
related so I'm putting them all under 1 bug report.

When I'm using Kate as normal, reading any sort of document, even plain text
documents, sometimes all (or some of) the text on the screen will disappear. I
first noticed this in .c highlighted files where any text that was syntax
highlighted (i.e. numbers, 'double', 'int' etc.) would be rendered invisible.
However, if I turned off syntax highlighting (by selecting 'None' as the
highlighting language) large swathes of text started disappearing. The text can
be seen if it is highlighted.

When trying to get a screenshot of this bug, this is what happened. First
rendering artefacts started showing up like in screenshot 1. The text that is
selected there had disappeared and in order to see it, I selected it. At the
same time as that you can see the strange rendering artefacts of text from
another document showing through so there's two sets of text overlaying each
other. After the screenshot was taken, the view in screenshot 2 was displayed
where all the text except that which is highlighted was shown.

After selecting different files, highlighting and un-highlighting and scrolling
around eventually everything was shown again as in screenshot 3.

Then, when trying to select a new piece of text (the small selection in the
upper half of screenshot 4), the old selection was still shown and making the
small selection actually made the selected text disappear (as seen in the
screenshot).

Finally, when I scrolled down in that same file, the text view seemed to not be
updating and rather just overwriting itself resulting in the mess seen in
screenshot 5.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Just waiting around it will happen eventually. I have only seen it happen in
Kate and not in other applications like Konsole or Plasma.



I'm running openSUSE 11.3 on a Dell Inspiron laptop with an Intel video card.
The computer is not overheating  as would possibly be responsible for this.
