No operating system ever closes a TCP connection if inactive.

NATs can remove the entry from the translation table after a period of
inactivity, however the timeout is usually very long.

TCP has a slow keepalive mechanism that prevents that timeout to fire.

However, there are ISPs massively NAT-ing people that tuned their NATs to
remove TCP connections from the translation table much earlier (Fastweb in
Italy comes to mind), thus an application-level keepalive should still be
present.

Anyway that souldn't trigger disconnection, so, this bug is still present for
me (and quite annoying to me an my contacts since they continuously see me
going online and offline).
