Further observations:

1) adding the files (w/o adding them to the CMakeLists.txt) and deleting them
works 

2) even if I press "cancel" in step 5 (above) the application crashes (the
CMakeLists.txt is not changed in this case)

3) if I choose "rename" in step 4 (above) instead of "remove", the dialog (step
5) appears and pressing ok does _not_ crash kdevelop
