Summary: New SMB kioslave for each new directory opened
           Product: dolphin
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: RedHat RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: peter.penz@gmx.at
        ReportedBy: benedikt@gollatz.net

Version: 1.4 (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

Since KDE 4.4.0, when browsing SMB shares, dolphin starts a new KIO slave
process for every (sub-)directory that is opened, even if it is on the same
share as the previous directory and is opened in the same tab.

Running smbstatus on a Samba SMB server displays a new process (i.e. a new
connection) for each directory that was opened. dolphin should reuse existing
open connections.

This behavior is bad because it leads to a significant speed loss when browsing
SMB shares and wastes resources on both server and client.

The described behavior is new in KDE 4.4.0. I did not experience the problem
using KDE 4.3.5.
