Summary: Cannot add icons from Kickoff widget to arbitrary
panel
Product: plasma
Version: unspecified
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: panel
AssignedTo: plasma-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: benedikt@gollatz.net
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
Adding an icon from the Kickoff widget the panel that host the widget is easy;
one can either drag-and-drop it unto the panel or use the "Add to Panel"
context menu option. It is impossible, however, to do the same with a panel
that does not have a Kickoff widget. Dropping the icon onto such a panel
(presumably any panel that is not the one hosting the Kickoff widget that the
user uses for the process) is disabled and the Kickoff widget will only add
icons to its Plasma::Containment (see
kdebase/workspace/plasma/desktop/applets/kickoff/ui/contextmenufactory.cpp, ll.
282ff.).
This behaviour makes adding an icon to such a panel a comparatively tedious
process as one has to add a Kickoff widget to it first and remove the widget
again after adding the icons to the panel. This is very counter-intuitive;
drag-and-drop should work with any panel and the Kickoff widget should provide
a context menu option to add an icon for each panel in use.
