This is basically due to a configuration problem.

When pulseaudio is in use, Phonon should be configured such that the *only*
output "device" available is the "PulseAudio" plugin for your chosen backend.

Rather than uninstalling PulseAudio, phonon needs to integrate *better* with
PulseAudio.

In fact, this is exactly what I've been doing of late and you can see the
fruits of that labour in the latest release of Mandriva (2010)!

I'm planning on landing this support upstream in the near future so that all
distros can benefit. In the mean time, you should poke your OpenSUSE
representative to see if they will incorporate my patches :)
