That is still no solution, so what do you suggest?

$ kde4-config --version
Qt: 4.5.1
KDE: 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0)
kde4-config: 1.0

According to
http://www.kdevelop.org/mediawiki/index.php/KDevelop_4/requirements my Qt/KDE
versions should be okay.

Here what comes out when I start Kdevelop on the console:

<unknown program name>(697)/ KDevelop::allocateRepository: picked duchain
directory "/home/the/.kdevduchain/1"
QObject::connect: Connecting from COMPAT signal (KTabBar::closeRequest(int))
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::sessionAdded(KDevelop::IDebugSession*)
to KDevelop::VariableCollection::updateAutoUpdate(KDevelop::IDebugSession*)
Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing.

Maybe you need to compile Qt in debug mode (as I did) to see that.

Whenever I click on the symbol of a working set, the following lines of debug
output come out:

QObject::connect: Connecting from COMPAT signal (KTabBar::closeRequest(int))
