Ok, maybe I was unclear. So to definitely clarify this:
CMake allows me to change the build type cia ccmake or by calling cmake with a
different build type. All my experiments so far showed that it handles the case
gratefully.

What didn't work is, if I change the build type via ccmake and then rerun
configure from kdevelop -- the build type is debug again afterwards, because
kdevelop calls "cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=debug".
