No.

- you installed several versions of KDE4?
No.

I have a clean installation of KDE 4.3 trunk of the last saturday (16th May
2009). And the effect activation doesn't work anymore in any way. At the time
of KDE 4.1 they worked, then with KDE 4.2 I had to disable the automatic
checking and now also if I disabled this checking KWin doesn't want to know
about enabling them. In the meanwhile my configuration is not changed.




- You still get the "Failed to activate desktop effects using the given
configuration options..." notion? So have you tried...?

-> in the "Advanced" tab, try swapping (one by one, not all together)

: "OpenGL"/"XRender" (the below are ignored when using XRender)
: "Texture From Pixmap"/"Shared Memory"
: Direct rendering

switch off VSync
set the texture filter to nearest and (as i don't know what side-effects
NoOffscreenPixmaps triggers)
"Keep window thumbnails" to "Never"

No I will try it.
