There is still a problem with kate not restoring the previous size correctly as
of KDE 4.2.0. To reproduce:

* Open Kate and resize to a larger, non-maximised size.
* Close Kate and reopen it. It restores the previous size correctly.
* Without resizing kate again, close it.
* Open Kate again - it will restore at its original default small size.

I've been looking at something similar in kontact (now fixed). I'll see what I
can do with this one too.
