OpenSuse KDE packages 4.2.60.svn912032. 

The actual crash is probably only a side effect of a problem that occured
before. 
I tried to a add the "logout" applet to the panel by dragging it from the
applet list to the panel. An area was highlighted in the panel as the dropzone,
but on releasing the mouse button nothing happened. The highlighted area
remained in the panel and wouldn't go away regardless what I did. So I tried to
add the "logout" applet a second time and tried to drop it into the still
highlighted place from the previous attempt. That's when the crash occured.
After the restart the highlighted area was gone and the third attempt to add
the applet was successful.
