i found that one of my HDDs shows signs of crashing (SMART messages), and the
I/O errors beagle complained about are probably related to that. (this leaves
the faulty jpg-headers, that were not located on that HDD.)

i keep updating my KDE 4.2 installation, and during the last few days i didn't
experience such errors again.
