It's worse, actually. From casual testing, I'm seeing a considerable
performance hit with a "non-patched" xserver (the one you posted on your blog).
Opening menus in quick succession now suffers from visible lack in painting. So
it looks like, as ajax already noted:
- bad performance, but no garbage shown
- garbage shown, but good performance
