@Lucas: i don't think you're testing the same thing. in the log:

plasma(5469) PanelView::updatePanelGeometry: PanelView(0x8d09b38) thinks its
panel is at  QRect(3565,41 35x1118) was QRect(3565,41 35x1118)


which means the size is 0x0. ok, fair enough, that's a bug (and i'll go fix
that one right now) but it's a different bug: it doesn't match what the
reporters are saying. they don't have 0x0 sized panels, they have panels that
disappear during resize but show up again on logging out/in and that this
*only* happens when desktop effects are turned on at log in.
