@Lucas: are you sure you are replicating the same issue the reporters are?
Because they aren't seeing the problem when compositing is not on when the
desktop starts .. which sounds different from what you are experiencing.

That and it works just fine here ... 

When you say "completely removed from screen" do you mean "KWin shows it as
being unmapped by the application" or that you just can't see it anymore?

One other question for all of you here: multiple screens or one screen?
