Even if this issue is already closed, I'd like to chime in to emphasize the
importance of being able to
1. use relative paths and
2. being able to share a central project file at all.

While I've been using KDevelop for a couple of years now (somewhen since
version 2), until one year ago it was for small and private projects. Now I'm
collaborating on a project in a small team, being the one responsible to
provide a working development environment and OS basis (for embedded hardware)
and generally taking the blame if "this Linux thing" doesn't behave as
expected... :-\ However we (I) decided for using KDevelop throughout, being the
best IDE available for C and C++ projects (except for Eclipse, perhaps, which I
consider quite bloated).
So my problem is to provide a KDevelop project ready for my colleagues to work
with, which of course includes all the project, compiler and debugger settings,
and keeping it up to date as progress is made. Ergo: *.kdevelop has to be
checked into CMS and *usable on every workstation w/o adaptions*. As the path
to the project dir differs for every developer (depending on his user name and
how she organizes her devel dirs) having *any* absolute path (executable,
working dir, debugger config files, tools etc.) stored in the project file or
relative paths being obscured and implicitely changed is a real showstopper.
Please consider this for KDev4. I guess there's no hope that 3.x will see any
changes in this behaviour from the core developers...?
