spent a fair amount of time fixing selection, and putting the caret in the correct \
place was part of that :-) (otherwise subsequent keyboard modification of the \
seelction is hosed).

I wouldn't be surprised if this is "broken" because ctrl-k does a line selection + \
delete internally, but in that case IMO we should special-case restoring the caret \
after (i.e. please don't go breaking the selection code).
