Whether Amarok is launched within Ubuntu 7.10, Kubuntu 8.04, Mandriva Spring 8.1 or the latest Mint \
Linux, I get only occasional right channel audio from the Live CDs, less often after installation, and \
never after updates. This applies to a Gateway 600YGR laptop with an ESS Allegro 1988 (aka Maestro) sound \
card - a pretty common configuration for Gateway laptops. I have a dual-boot system with XP Pro on the \
primary drive and Mint Linux on the secondary. No matter which Linux version I install (I've tried a \
dozen or so variants), even if the hardware is properly identified, it isn't properly driven.  Sadly, I \
don't know how to write or compile my own drivers. When I reboot in XP, the audio works perfectly every \
time.
