           Summary: Tabs get replaced with spaces if indent size shorter
           Product: kate
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kwrite-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: ugarro telefonica net

Version:           3.0.66 (using 4.00.66 (KDE 4.0.66 >= 20080313), compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.24-12-generic

Lets say you have the following configuration:
Under "Editing->General",
Disable "Insert spaces instead of tabulators"
Tab Width = 8 characters

Then, if you add a tab, it should do tabbing, rather than spacing.

But, if under Indentation, "Indentation width" is set to something smaller, say 5 \
characters, it will use spaces instead of tabs.

Not sure if this is a bug or the expected behavior, but it pretty confuses the user \
when he has disabled replacing with spaces and the application remains doing that. \
