No, KDevelop can't override "the default" in a realistic way. Unless I'm missing something obvious, doing \
so would require 1. knowing the name of the settting in kateparts settings file
2. reading the settings file to see if it hold a value for the property
3. If there is no value in the katepart settings file we rely on the fact that KDE apps tends to not \
write default values to file and assume we know that katepart defualts this property to OFF and we \
programmatically override this to ON. And we do this every time a new file is opened?
This makes for at least 3 assumptions about kateparts behaviour that the Kate developers haven't intended \
as part of their API and they should be free to change without fear it will break anything.
IMHO, this is an obvious WONTFIX. It makes some sense as a wish against Kate for changing their default \
behaviour, but not as something that adds another thing to wrong to KDevelop for a benefit that doesn't \
even qualify as 'marginal'. Let the user do "Configure Editor -> Appearance -> Show line numbers" ONCE \
instead.
