lsb_release --id -s takes a whopping 3.5 seconds on my system (with cold caches). :/

Although your patch does sound correct, I'd first see real breakage before putting in \
such a performance penalty. Especially since guidance is usually put in by distros \
that need to know what they're doing anyway...
