By "this bug has been biting me for months now" do you mean that you've been running \
the same version of Amarok for the entire time, or it happened after upgrading?

Either way, upgrading *is* an option.  There's nothing stopping you from building \
Amarok from SVN in a directory and simply not running "make install" (I think it \
should work).  You can even back up your ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc and \
~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ before running it...

If it works for us, and you're running a very old version, it's difficult for us to \
figure out what's going on, especially since the problem may very well have been \
fixed (Last.fm's been futzing around with their protocol).
