I think the problem must be elsewhere. KNotes saves each and every change once you \
switch window focus. I.e. if you type text into a note and then move the mouse to \
another note or window the previous note is saved. Text is only lost if you change a \
note and without moving the pointer to another window you kill X. And even then, only \
the latest changes are lost, not all of your notes.

So please verify this, if you are loosing all of your notes then something else is \
really wrong and broken and needs fixing.

You are right though regarding the preferences. They are not critical and thus only \
stored if KNotes is shutdown properly.
