You're right, its not possible to have -j without a number. 

However that will not happen in 3.4 (and neither will the extension to 32 threads \
happen) unless two things happen:

a) KDE 3.5 is again unfrozen for small features and string changes
b) Somebody provides a patch to implement these two things.

KDevelop3.4 development is supposed to fade out.
