ok, now i read the Imlib docs, i see the problem... they consider setting a \
"transperency color" instead of having a mask. (mask: 8bit of transperency per x-y \
pair if i remember correctly) so the problem is indeed the lack of support for \
masking of images in Imlib.
what Internet Explorer <7 was doing in such a case for PNG's is setting the \
"transperency color" to 50% grey what makes the images more or less usable. this may \
be a workaround till Imlib gets masks implemented or we patch it or switch to another \
lib.
