Summary: Use unobtrisive passive notifications for network status
instead of pop-up alert dialogs
Product: kopete
Version: unspecified
Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-devel kde org
ReportedBy: jason keirstead org
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
This is somewhat related to bug 104202, but not really because I believe it is \
MSN-specific code. When the MSN network is in an unstable state, you can go online \
and offline many times over the course of an hour. It is very annoying to have to \
click "OK" on 15 pop-up alert dialogs when the connection goes offline, then online, \
then offline, etc.
A similar thing happens to me every morning when I come log into my laptop and my \
wireless connection timed out overnight.
I agree with 104202 in that network status notifications should be passive dialogs \
and unobtrusive. After all these is no action you can perform to remedy the situation \
anyway so I don't see why you need to interrupt the user with an in-your-face alert.
