Hmm... my testing matches your testcases. From what I can see the GIF transparency is \
working fine in both cases. The PNG's on that page actually seem to not be \
transparent, so that's proper behavior as well.

I changed the GIF on that page to PNG format, and setup a simple webpage with the \
body tag bgcolor=lightblue and tried the test with both the gif and png, and it \
worked properly for me.
