I might be way of of my leage here, but all this talk of journalling the uidcache \
file and sync-writing to disk seems a bit far fetched for a mail client to implement. \
Could the local cache perhaps be re-implemented using some transactional mechanism \
(like an embedded, lightweight database, sqlite perhaps) instead of coding actual \
journalling into KMail?

I believe using an embedded database might actually be less work than implementing \
actual journalling logic in KMail.
