I was trying the workaround of enabling display power management and set the sliders \
to: Standby after: 1 min
Suspend after: 2 min
Power off after: 3 min
just to see what happened.  I blanked after 1 min but I have the Slideshow screen \
saver selected to start at 1 min. So I tried setting the power management to 10, 20, \
30 min respectively and Slideshow didn't start after 1 min.
