a) As I noted in the first bug I closed as a dupe of #84391 (#93407, which concerned \
itself with XChat style column alignment as well), a well-designed fix for one of \
those gets us both capabilities. 

b) I have changed the title of #84391 to "Column alignment in the chat view" to cover \
both cases conceptually. I've also just added a new comment there to flesh out the \
issue a bit.

c) Note that we're not oblivious to this request. As you can probably imagine, it's a \
pretty popular one. Improved layouting mechanics for column alignment is on our minds \
and agenda. No need to panic :-).
