Very odd! Can you try again, but in the settings dialog - can you disable 
the "Configure fonts for Ghostscript".

Also, can you turn on KDE's debug - via kdebugdialog (just enable '0 - 
Generic). This should cause kio_fonts to output some debug to 
~/.xsession-errors. Then can you send me a copy of that file?

[Note, if you are running the installer in KControl via the admin mode, you 
will need to run kdebugdialog  as root]

Also, the font-installation wont actually be that much faster - but I have 
worked on this, and it will be much, much, quicker in KDE4.
