I have this problem to.
Have had this since KDE 3.4 I think. I'm using Slackware 10.2.

I have no idea that causes this, but I find it very annoying. Suddenly, the keyboard \
repeat is unset! Could it be some kind of shortcut I accidently pressed or  \
something?

Out of the applications you listed, I only use Mozilla Firefox and Kicker.
