As I said, you've got other options.
There are other databases other than DNS. Check your /etc/nsswitch.conf. Also an \
option is to keep all /etc/hosts. Another option is to use WINS (the name service \
that Windows uses over its networking). Just turn it on.
As for the domain, yes, you must have one. But you can use a fake domain too, \
including the one ending in ".local", which is reserved for local networks.
