I would guess this stems from the player numbering scheme (0,1,2,3 vs 1,2,3,4).

For example, one oddity is that I can't control pieces with the default key settings \
if player 0 is human and player 1 is AI (except for DOWN), but I can play fine \
(except for the window being backwards of how I want it ;)) if the AI is P#0, and the \
human is P#1.

I would suggest making the default key shortcuts for player 0 more sensible... ?
