Summary: Make amaroK window sizing/restore and dialogues play
nice with Gnome/Metacity
Product: amarok
Version: unspecified
Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: amarok-bugs-dist lists sourceforge net
ReportedBy: aenertia aenertia net
Version: SVN + Stables (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: GCC 3.4.4 amd64
OS: Linux
This is related to Bug 107844 , http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308518 , Bug 59572 , \
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137185
While the one of the issues is the mentioned restore from systray, incorect maximised window position \
issue. The bigger one is that, amarok when operating in a gnome environment with metacity WM, makes \
really big dialouge boxes that span outside of the visible screen area.
This occurs for any of the open dialogue (and especially on 1024x768) is heinously anoying.
The other big issue is on track info, You get these very wide spanning dialogues which are off the side \
of the screen and must be resized before being useable.
While many of the related bugs seems to be marked resolved, and be related to other components, I have \
not seen improvements compiling either kde, gnome, or amarok from svn/cvs sources, leading me to believe \
that a fix needs to happen at an application level.
Not all KDE apps running under metacity/gnome do this, for example Kivios dialogues etc work fine, it \
appears to be a metacity bug with tray apps, however the dialogue issue needs some attension.
Perhaps some checks for screen resolution and limiting dialogues to width of screen rez before opening \
dialogues.
However I am not sure how this would work with dialogues with really really long default filters (i.e the \
script install dialogue). Can you truncate the filterfeild like you can do the path in the tag edit \
dialogue?
This is probably a little bit more important than it seems, as many popular distros ship with gnome as \
default, so we need to ensure amarok "plays nice" on these systems.
Kind regards
Joel W
