Personally, I would like to see the same two options that are available in Kate on \
                Kdevelop:
- Split vertically
- Split horizontally
Other advanced usages of spliting micht be possible, but they may as well be \
controversial. Kate's way is simple, it is already implemented. Personally, I use \
splitting a lot to see two parts of the same file.
