Version:           2.4.1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)

I uploaded a file I created in kate and saved as UTF-16 into an FTP account. Then I \
downloaded that file through konqueror. When I tried to open it with Kate, kate \
identified the file it saved as UTF-16 as being a binary file.
