Anders, thank you for your answer.

I have two kate.desktop:

/home/niels/.local/share/applications/kde/kate.desktop
/usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/kate.desktop

I changed to "Exec=kate -u %U" in both.

What happens now is: When I open several files from Konqueror ("Open with"), they \
open in the same Kate. There's an error everytime but the first: a window called \
"Sorry - Konqueror" (how's that for usability!) with the message "KDEInit could not \
launch 'Kate'". But Kate loads the file.

"Show source" from Konqueror still opens separate Kates.
