I am also experiencing the same behavior as Niels.  'kate %U' has no effect.  'kate \
-u' does force the correct behavior, but it seems less-than-ideal that you would have \
to always remember the -u command line switch to get what should be a default(able) \
behavior.

Why was the old "allow more than one unix process" option removed?  It seems to me \
this should be an application setting rather than only a command line option.
