Indeed it would, and it is in fact already implemented in the development 
version, so it will be so in next version of kimdaba.

| 2.1 is out and I can't find a way to make Kimdaba use ~/.thumbnails
| (neither config dialog nor ./configure option). FYI the "ThumbNails"
| directories appear as a sub-album in Digikam, so it would be really nice to
| have the thumbnails somewhere else.
