I can also confirm this behavour on Gentoo Linux with Kopete 0.10.2

Attempting to talk to users who use the official Google talk client results in them \
being disconnected. It does appear to be a problem with the typing notification as \
they are often disconnected merely by typing to them. Afterwards the effect seems to \
be somewhat sporadic with messages randomly getting through as the user is randomly \
disconnected as you further attempt to talk to them.
