It's never too late. :)
When you open kaddressbook you get three panes. upper left with the list of entries, \
right with the preview of the entry you selected and bottom-left, where you can see \
the resources/addressbooks you use.
Concerning it's width I doubt that there are that many people who have that many, \
that long entries in the addressbook-list that they need the current width of the \
pane. In my case there is only one entry labeled "resource" that has a checkbox in \
front of it. So all in all the resource pane uses about six times more space for its \
width than it would actually need.
Concerning its entries' labels I think that "resource" (the \
standard-entry/addressbook) does not say anything to the user, but fair enough, one \
could rename it.
In order to use the full width of the resources/addressbook-pane, I suggested to use \
icons (with labels underneath) for the entries so that they align vertically, or \
horizontally if the resources pane is placed horizontally (like kontact's \
components-bar). One could assign the KDE-K to the addressbook of KDE-developers, or \
some company's logo to its addressbook. Instead of the checkbox in front of it, one \
would place a green tick in bottom-right corner of the icon if enabled and a red \
cross if disabled. Enabling/Disabling an addressbook would simply involve to click on \
it. Maybe one could also grey out disabled icons, as it is done for the kmixer \
tray-icon.
I hope one gets the idea.
