The list of formats supported is dependent on the kimgio plugins you
have installed.

PNG is generally better in these cases. I did at one point include
suypport for GIF directly in ksnapshot, but since it is encumbered
by patents people can't ship the code with that enabled. Until I am
sure that the legal situation is clear, I won't be adding support for
GIF writing.
