Does Mandrake ship kfontinst? As far as I'm aware its diabled - as they use 
their own DrakFont.

Do <kdedir>/lib/kde3/kcm_fontinst.so and <kdedir>/lib/kde3/kcm_fontinst.la 
exist? ( I think Mandrake instal kde to /usr - so these would 
be /usr/lib/kde3/kcm...  - but "kde-config --prefix" should let you know aht 
<kdedir> is)
