No need for any of these to open remote files in KDE!

Jason, why don't you open the file on the remote machine with fish:// ?

It has several advantages:
  - no need for mounts: bye bye, NFS !
  - no syncrhonization problems
  - security/encryption: you can securely open files open files outside trusted networks
