Referring to Peter's comment (#9), I have a distant recollection of a similar bug ages (2 years?) ago. The symptom of that bug was this: the list of screensavers available to KDE was not determined by the current result of:
`ls $KDEDIR/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers`,
but by its value at the time when KDE was compiled.
