The keys are used to zoom in the djvu plugin..
If you want the same behavior in kpdf, go to Settings->Configure Shortcuts and set:
+ (plus) as the shortcut for "Zoom In" action
- (minus) as the shortcut for "Zoom In" action

Maybe for kde 3.5 we could give kpdf to usability people to adjust default values \
(actions shortcuts for example)

So this whish is already in place.
