Summary: trash:/ with submount for cdrom extremely slow
           Product: kicker
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Compiled Sources
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: trashapplet
        AssignedTo: ervin ipsquad net
        ReportedBy: jens.zurheide gmx de

Version: 3.3.90 (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: 3.3.4 gcc (GCC) 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
 (SuSE 9.2)
OS: Linux

Hello!

I currently experience an extreme slowdown related to the trash:/ protocol and the \
submount option for a cdrom.

Moving a file to the trash-can opens a dialog that should display the deletion \
progress but it rests at the very beginning unless the submount process times out. It \
seems that the kio_trash process triggers the mounting process for the (empty) CD-ROM \
(by accessing it?). Disabling submount for the CD speeds up the trash:/ access to the \
usual speed.

Aaron reported a similar effect for him: \
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel&m=110193137411191&w=2.

My relevant line in /etc/fstab:
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,
nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0

And the relevan output of ps
[khelper]
/sbin/submountd /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom cdfss 40000007 \
iocharset=utf8,uid=1000,gid=100

Thanks for having a look at it,
Jens
