Could you try the following:
File->exit kmail
edit the kmailrc (please make a backup before editting)
and add:
---------
[Network] 
MaxConnectionsPerHost=1 
--------
If that is already there, then you only need to change that value of course

Officially this was created for firewalls blocking multiple requests at the same \
time, but maybe it also works in this case. Let us know.
