For the record KMail already has code to detect if disk space is 
exhausted and then cleanly exit without losing mail.

Robert Kleins report is especially perplexing as either he's using 
IMAP in which case mail shouldn't be deleted from the server when 
downloaded, or he's using POP in which case if KMail exits when disk 
space is exhausted while still downloading mail then the QUIT command 
can't have been issued to the POP server so the POP server shouldn't 
have deleted any mail (unless it's extremely buggy).
